Named
after the Delaware Bay and River,
Delaware is located along the Atlantic Coast in the Mid-Atlantic
region of the United States. The state is bordered by Maryland to
the southwest, Pennsylvania to the northwest, and New Jersey to the
north. Delaware is the 49th smallest state but
has 320
more residents per square mile than the national average.
The
Delaware economy is made up of a
variety of different industries including manufacturing, agriculture,
and government services. Truck drivers are employed in all sectors
of the state economy, as they are needed to transport goods produced
in Delaware throughout the state and the rest of Mid-Atlantic region.

Delaware Economy
The government is the single largest
employer in Delaware; the state of Delaware employees the most
residents, followed by New Castle County. The military also has a
strong presence in the state economy with Dover Air Force Base, which
is located in the capital city and is one of the largest bases in the
United States.
Manufacturing
is one of the largest
industries in Delaware; manufactured products that are produced in
the state include processed foods, paper and plastic products, and
rubber and chemical products. Automotive manufacturing is also a
large part of the industry since both Chrysler and General Motors
have manufacturing plants located in the state.
Another
important Delaware industry
includes agriculture. The state produces and exports several
different products including soybeans, corn, dairy products, poultry,
and nursery stock (trees, plants, and shrubs). Chicken farming is an
important part of the agricultural economy, especially in Sussex
County, where massive chicken farms are located including the famous
Perdue Farms.

Delaware Roadways
There are a many major roadways that
carry traffic throughout Delaware. The major interstate that passes
through Delaware is Interstate 95, which runs northeast and
southwest. In addition, there are six U.S. highways and a number of
state highways.
